Pear for lung health

The winds are blowing here in California and the air is dry. Some parts of Southern California are currently inundated with smoke from the fires. Which means the air quality is poor, allergy symptoms are up, and you feel like you can’t drink enough water to quench your thirst.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, certain foods can be eaten to balance the internal organ system. Pears are one of the foods that can support your Lung health by bringing moisture back into your body.

Eating pears will support the Lungs which are overtaxed with toxins due to the dry, smoke-filled air. Pears have the ability to clear heat and moisten the lungs.

Try cooking them to make a tea or soup. Pear tea or soup is helpful to strengthen the Lungs, speed the recovery period of coughs and colds, and also moisten dryness (dry throat, dry cough, dry skin).

There are many ways to make pear tea, but this one is MyQi’s very own recipe.

  • 2-3 whole pears (Asian pears is preferred but any variety will do)

  • ¼ cup of almonds

  • 2 slices of fresh ginger

  • 1 tsp raw honey to taste

  • 1 slice of lemon

  • Serve warm

Put all the ingredients except for honey and lemon together in a pot.
Fill it with 4 cups of water (more if needed to cover the pears with water).
Bring it to a boil then bring down the heat to low and simmer for an 45mins-1hr.
When finished cooking, add the honey and a squeeze of lemon.

You can simply just enjoy the tea, or you can eat the pears as well. You can store the liquid and pear in a glass jar or container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Enjoy!
